The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to numerous calls for service between July 7 and July 13, among which were the following:
July 7
Fuel leak: 11:57 p.m., (Auburn). Auburn police asked firefighters to hurry to the scene of a hit-and run-collision, where a car had struck a garage and knocked over a large outdoor fuel tank with fuel oil inside. Approximately 30 gallons of fuel leaked out before firefighters contained the spill.
July 8
Aid call: 4:43 a.m., (Algona). After firefighters evaluated a young child who was struggling to breathe, a private ambulance transported the kid to Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
July 9
Vehicle fire: 8:08 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responded to the 600 block of Oravetz Southeast, where the husks of two vehicles remained from a fire that had burned out the night before. The vehicle fire had spread into the trees and bushes, but those fires were also out at the time of the 911 call. Firefighters ensured the brush fires were completely out before they turned the scene over to investigators.
July 10
Customer service: 8:30 a.m., (Lea Hill). The Engine 34 crew noticed a mother and her infant daughter struggling to fix the girl’s three-wheeled sports stroller. The crew, blessed with a bike mechanic at station 34, disassembled and reassembled the stroller and left it in good working order.
July 11
Stabbing: 10:17 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters and police officers from Auburn, Pacific and Algona responding to a street fight at Rhubarb and Blueberry streets in Pacific found one male who had sustained stab wounds to the abdomen and thigh. Firefighters treated and transported the male to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. Police have a suspect in custody. The Pacific Police Department is investigating.
July 12
Semi-truck fire: 3:13 p.m., (Kent). Firefighters dispatched to tackle a commercial vehicle with a tire on fire on Highway 18 found a large commercial trailer that was 50 percent involved in fire and a running grass fire menacing nearby homes. Firefighters used two hose lines to attack and extinguish both fires at the same time.
July 13
Brush fire: 3:30 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of a hedge on fire found residents hosing down a large hedge, which was partially involved in flames. Firefighters snuffed the fire, and the fire investigator investigated its cause.
