VRFA fire and rescue blotter | June 21

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 276 calls for service between June 10 and 16, among them the following:

June 10

Aid call: 6:39 p.m., (Auburn). After someone had provided first-aid to a choking senior citizen and cleared his airway, firefighters arrived, evaluated the man, and a family member transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

June 11

Stove fire: 5:14 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an automatic fire alarm near the 600 block of 29th Street Southeast and finding light smoke in the residence, got inside through an open window and discovered food cooking on the stove. The building did not sustain any damage.

June 12

Service call: 11:59 a.m., (South Auburn). At a resident’s request, firefighters turned off the gas feeding a leaking water heater, shut off the water supply and drained it with a garden hose.

June 13

Wires: 9:41 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to a report of wires down found a snapped power pole in the roadway. Firefighters and Pacific Police secured the area and then waited for Puget Sound Energy to respond to deal with the problem.

June 14

Illegal burn: 7:47 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters responding to the report of an illegal burn in the 200 block of Algona Boulevard South discovered that the homeowner had already extinguished the fire without incident.

June 15

Aid call: 7:05 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters helped a man who was complaining of shortness of breath, and a private ambulance zipped him to a local hospital for further evaluation.

June 16

Explosion: 9:28 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to multiple reports of an explosion with power lines down and finding a fence and power pole burning determined the lines were phone lines and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire was a squirrel that had come in contact with high-voltage lines on the transformer.
