VRFA fire and rescue blotter | March 13

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the 275 calls for service between March 2 and March 8, among them the following:

March 2

Residential fire: 2:05 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of fire in an abandoned, boarded-up house arrived to find smoke and flames. When they had knocked down the exterior fire and gotten inside for fire attack and search and rescue, they found the structure in such poor condition they were left with no recourse but to fight the remainder of the fire from outside. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

March 3

Aid call: 4:50 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a toddler in febrile seizure, and a private ambulance transported the lad to a local hospital.

March 4

Aid call: 5:27 p.m. (South Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a senior citizen who had driven his car onto a parking island and into a tree, and a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

March 5

Accident: (4:22 p.m., Auburn). Firefighters responding to a two-vehicle crash secured the scene, evaluated all involved and turned the scene over to the Washington State Patrol.

March 6

Accident: 2:30 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a man who had been struck by a car, and a VRFA aid car transported him to a local hospital.

March 7

Accident: 3:34 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responding to a vehicle that had left a road and was stuck 10 feet down a steep hill first confirmed everyone who’d been inside was safely out and uninjured, helped a tow truck secure the vehicle and then helped to change a flat tire so the vehicle’s owner could drive off.

March 8

Swift-water rescue: 9:56 a.m., (Enumclaw). Swift-water rescue team members responding to a report of a teenager in the White River found him, and King County Medic One transported him to a hospital for evaluation.
