The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 247 calls for service between May 6 and 12, among them the following:

May 6

Bark fire: 6:53 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters summoned to a beauty bark fire near a dumpster at an apartment complex extinguished and then overhauled the smoldering bark.

May 7

Overdose: 2:07 p.m., (Auburn). Auburn Police hurrying to a heroin overdose and finding a young man in extremis quickly administered Narcan to help him. Firefighters and medics soon arrived to treat the man, and a private ambulance hurried him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) for further evaluation.

May 8

Motorcycle accident: 6:48 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded as mutual aid to Pacific Raceways to treat a man who had injured himself while racing his dirt motorcycle, and a private ambulance transported him to MAMC.

May 9

Vehicle fire: 11:14 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a one-vehicle fire on the Walmart parking lot quickly extinguished the conflagration. Fire investigators then showed up to determine the cause.

May 10

Aid call: 1:25 p.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters responding to a middle-aged man who was complaining of a rapid heart rate zipped him off to MAMC.

May 11

River rescue: 9:52 a.m., (Auburn). The Zone 3 Technical Rescue Team responded to a report of people in the Green River who were trying to rescue their dogs, which were floating downstream. Firefighters did not have to enter the river. However, as the dogs escaped the river on their own. No people were in the river when firefighters got there.

May 12

Smoke investigation: 7:46 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters responding to an outdoor smoke investigation advised some errant residents about the burning regulations and encouraged them to find some other way to get rid of their junk mail.
