VRFA fire and rescue blotter | Nov. 18

The VRFA responded to 232 calls for service between Nov. 7 and 13, among them the following:

Nov. 7

Accident: 6:31 p.m., (Algona). At the request of the Washington State Patrol, firefighters responded to a house where four people who about a half-hour earlier had been in a rollover car accident on State Route 167. Firefighters evaluated two adults with moderate injuries, and one child with minor injuries. A private ambulance transported one adult to a local hospital, but the other refused treatment, despite worrisome injuries. Firefighters left the child in her father’s care.

Nov. 8

River rescue: 3:23 p.m., (Auburn). While Auburn Police were negotiating with a suicidal woman who was standing in the Green River, firefighters staged rescuers for a potential river rescue. Eventually, police calmed the woman down and helped her out of the water. An ambulance transported her to a local hospital.

Nov. 9

Aid call: 3:43 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters evaluating a girl who had woken up, become dizzy and vomited, determined that she likely had reacted to dietary supplements that lowered her blood pressure. Firefighters left the girl at home with her mother and advised the mother to follow up with her doctor.

Nov. 10

Aid call: 5:27 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded as mutual aid with Kent Fire Authority for a middle-aged man who had suffered a knife wound to his chest in a domestic incident. King County Medic One transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Nov. 11

Aid call: 1:26 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an infant for CPR met the child’s father at the door and provided first aid. Firefighters quickly determined the child was breathing but was having intermittent seizures. Paramedics transported the critical child to Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

Nov. 12

Aid call: 11:04 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics treated a man whose family had found him unconscious, and King County Medic One transported him to a local hospital.

Nov. 13

Mutual aid: 9:23 p.m.,(Kent). While providing mutual aid coverage for Kent Station 71, VRFA firefighters responded to a residential fire in Renton. South King County helped the cause because a lot of firefighting resources had been directed to a large commercial fire in Kent.
