Auburn police responded to 194 calls for service between Oct. 22 and Oct. 28, among them the following:
Oct. 22
Chimney fire: 3:18 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to a report of black smoke pouring from a chimney contacted the homeowner who confirmed that a piece of plastic left by accident in the fire place was the source of the black smoke.
Oct. 23
Service call: 5:45 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a major water leak in the 1400 block of F Street Southeast discovered that the water flowing into the street was coming from a water main that had broken under the sidewalk. An after-hours City of Auburn water department crew responded and fixed things up.
Oct. 24
Aid call: 10:05 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responded to a child who had swallowed an over-the-counter medication. Firefighters contacted Poison Control but the kid didn’t need any treatment. Firefighters left the toddler in the care of his mother.
Oct. 25
Aid call: 1:12 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics treated a man in the throes of chest pain and firefighters transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) for treatment.
Oct. 26
Aid call: 10:17 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a man with severely low blood pressure caused by his kidney failure, but King County Medics treated him and transported him to Valley Medical Center in Renton.
Oct. 27
Smoke investigation: 2:07 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters checking out a report of smoke inside a home and determining that a resident had burned food on the kitchen stove opened the windows to let the smoke exit the natural way.
Oct. 28
Explosion: 11:34 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to an explosion at Third and Skinner found remnants of a homemade explosive that had been placed on a U.S. Geological survey device used to monitor river flows. The monitor was damaged. Pacific police and the South King County Fire Investigation Task Force are investigating. Firefighters contacted the Army Corps of Engineers to advise them of the event. The Corps was appreciative and planned to send out a representative to check the device.
