The Valley Regional Fire Authority’s Training Division will be conducting live fire training in the City of Pacific on Wednesday, June 22.

The training will take place at 130 3rd Ave. SE and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. The building, which is owned by the City of Pacific, will be burned to the ground at the conclusion of the one-day training session.

This type of training is valuable to firefighters by providing them with a realistic environment to exercise their skills while encountering the hazards they may face in a real residential fire. Firefighters will rotate throughout the day in various scenarios to practice light search and rescue, ventilation and fire suppression techniques.

Neighbors should expect to see smoke in the area during the training exercise. As required by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency for a training exercise of this type, the asphalt roofing and other hazardous materials will be removed prior to the burn to minimize the environmental impacts.

The public will be allowed to view the drill from designated areas.
