Woman dies in car vs. pedestrian incident

A 73-year-old Auburn woman was struck and killed by a car as she walked in the 3100 block of Auburn Way South at about 12:50 Thursday afternoon.

Auburn Police Sgt. Scott Near said the car, a 2000 Geo Tracker driven by a 38-year-old Enumclaw woman, was eastbound when it hit the woman, who had just crossed an entire lane of traffic and was walking north to south.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic One paramedics arrived on scene to find an off-duty paramedic and emergency room nurse already performing CPR. The two had been passing by at the time and immediately stopped to help. Firefighters and paramedics continued CPR, but the woman could not be revived.

Auburn police are investigating.

Near said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs or any in-car distractions played a role in the accident.

“It doesn’t appear the driver saw her,” Near said.

The victim’s name has not been released.
