June Garre

June (Reck) Garre

September 6, 1921 – March 15, 2010

June Garre, along with her husband Ed, was the center of her very close knit family. She died peacefully surrounded by them at age 88 of natural causes complicated by dementia. Contented, sweet, and happy during her final years, June was loved as the “smiley” one by her wonderful care givers at Dorothy’s Angel Haven in Auburn. Born in Tacoma, June lived modestly with her parents Ingrid and Richard Reck in a number of different logging camps and mill towns during the Depression, finally settling in Milton at age 15 where she graduated from Fife High School in 1939. It was there she met her husband Ed Garre. After graduating from Butell Business College, while Ed was serving in the Navy, June worked as a bookkeeper for RE Anderson and United Pacific Insurance in Tacoma and as an usherette at the Rialto Theatre evenings. At last she was able to join Ed in Chicago in 1944 where they married.Following the end of World War II they settled in Auburn. There June and Ed raised their three children, and together owned and operated the popular Auburn radio station KASY, the “Voice of the Valley” from 1958 to 1989. She and Ed shared an active social life with the valley business community. They enjoyed boating with friends, and June loved to sew, play the piano, but most of all liked being home with the kids. June was able to enjoy her children, all who remain in Auburn, and grandchildren until her final day. June is survived by her beloved husband Ed, son Dennis Garre (Peggie), and daughters Susan Barkshire (Bob), and Diana Joiner (Chuck), along with her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on April 24th at 1:30pm in Auburn, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 505 17th St SE with a reception following. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
