Kenneth Dale Knight

Kenneth Dale Knight was called home on July 8, 2012. He was born November 6, 1921 in Montesano, WA to Rev. Nelson Thurman & Hattie Belle (Ray) Knight. In 1944 he joined the Army and while home on leave from WWII met the love of his life, Cleo Johnson. They married on March 25, 1945 in Harrisburg, PA after a six week courtship. After being discharged from the Army the family settled in the Auburn area where Ken worked for several Auburn car dealerships before taking a position with the City of Auburn Maintenance & Operations facility, retiring in 1984. Ken enjoyed retirement, traveling with family and spending winters in Yuma, AZ. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart and overwhelming love for his family.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cleo of Auburn, daughters Elaine (Al) Austin of Puyallup, Yvonne (Fred) Coffey of Yuma, Debbie Lamb (Scott) of Auburn and Pam Knight of Seattle. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.Ken has joined his parents, siblings and a great-grandson in heaven. His strong constitution and loyalty was like no other. We continued to learn from him even through his final days. There’s no way to measure this man or how much we will miss him. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.The family would like to express their love and gratitude to Dorothy Schlimmie of Dorothy’s Angel Haven along with caregivers Hannah, Henry and Grace for the amazing care, love and compassion they provided. A memorial service has been scheduled for 1:30 pm Thursday, August 23 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
