1929-2023
Lois (McDonald) Crawford, age 93, passed away peacefully on 9/17/23 after battling with dementia. She is survived by daughters Suzanne (Ed) Wassil and Sandra (Mike) Hagadone, son Doug (Jill) Crawford, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Lois was born in 1929 in Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada to Alexander and Hannah (Lily) McDonald, the second of seven children. Lois graduated from Lake Washington High School, Kirkland WA and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree in Seattle. She moved to Auburn to start her nursing career where she was introduced the love of her life, Walt Crawford. They were married for 69 years.
Lois selflessly served the Lord donating countless hours to the Auburn First United Methodist on the Board of Trustees, Stephens Ministry, Women’s Quilt Circle and tending all the flowerbeds. Lois worked at Auburn General Hospital as an LPN, the Executive Housekeeper and Patients Resource Care Coordinator. Lois maintained her LPN license until her retirement, filling in at various nursing stations whenever they were short staffed.
Upon her retirement, Lois watched her five oldest grandchildren and then volunteered in granddaughter Courtney’s and grandson Cody’s classroom at Lake Tapps Elementary. She continued volunteering in the same classroom twice weekly for 13 years. Lois received the Pinnacle Award from the Deringer School District for outstanding dedication and service to the school community in March 2017. Lois was a member of PEO Chapter FS Auburn for 51 years.
Lois loved to travel throughout the United States and across the globe. Later, her favorite holidays were spent in Palm Springs, Sun River and Newport, OR with Walt, brother Jim and sister-in-law Jean. She loved playing games, cards and dominoes (she was a shark) with friends and family, teaching her children and grandchildren how to play.
Lois will always be remembered as the heartbeat of our family with a smile on her face and arms outstretched to wrap you in a big hug.
Lois’ children thank the care and support that she received at Guardian Angel Assisted-Living Homes in Richland, WA and the Hospice Services provided through the Tri-City Chaplaincy.
The family welcomes all to celebrate Lois’ life on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Auburn First United Methodist Church located at 100 N Street SE Auburn, WA 98002. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Lois Crawford’ memory to: Auburn First United Methodist Church (www.auburnfirstumc.org) or Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or your favorite charity. She will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery, Auburn, WA.
