Lorraine Kennedy Gaines

August 2, 1929 – May 1, 2021

Lorraine Gaines was born August 2, 1929 in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Leon Thomas and Mary Barbour Gilmour. She had a brother (Ken Gilmour) and a sister (Marjorie Gleason).

After graduating from Beloit High School, Lorraine attended Frances Shimer College. Soon after, while still a young girl, she boarded a train alone to Los Angeles. She met her future husband, Charles Gaines, while attending Woodbury College. They married on May 12, 1951. Their first home was in California where their two daughters and son were born. In 1962, they moved to Auburn, Washington.

In 1970, she went to work in real estate and successfully remained in that profession for over 30 years. She co- owned a real estate office in Auburn.

Lorraine was kind and generous in helping those in need. She loved to travel and entertain. She deeply loved her family including all her beautiful extended families, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She had a zest for life that no one could measure.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Gaines, brother Kenneth Gilmour, and sister Marjorie Gilmour. Lorraine is survived by her three children, Paul and Robin Wohlhueter, Jeff and Cheryl Brown, and Brad and Katrina Gaines, seven grandchildren, Bartley Wohlhueter, Patrick and Amanda Wohlhueter, Charlie and Amber Stanfill, Harrison Stanfill, Christopher Gaines, Caroleena Gaines, and Alex Gaines, and six great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service was held on May 12th. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to the Auburn Food Bank in memory of Lorraine Gaines.
