Mary L. Roland

Mary L. Roland of Auburn died August 26, 2016. She was 91.

Born Mary Louise Brown on January 8, 1925, in Cobbtown, Georgia, “Louise” was the youngest of 19 children in her family. Raised in Georgia, she later travelled to New York, where she married John C. Roland on July 4, 1942. The couple moved to Auburn, Washington at the end of World War II, where they raised their two sons and resided until their deaths.

Louise held a number of jobs throughout the years, which included working as a riveter, employment at Boeing, working at Van’s Furniture, and weighing trucks at the scale house at Black River Sand and Gravel Company. She eventually followed her passion for needlework and began her own home-based alterations business, which she operated for a number of years.

An avid bowler for the past 60 years, Louise enjoyed League bowling and was able to travel and participate in tournaments around the country. Louise also found enjoyment in music and gardening.

Louise is survived by her sister, Marie Petersen; grandchildren Duane Roland and Jana Hughes; by four great-grandchildren; and by numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons.

A brief memorial, along with inurnment, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15 at Mt. View Cemetery in Auburn.
