Accolades for the Auburn Mountainview football squad keep coming, including last week’s announcement of the South Puget Sound League 3A all-league honors.
Lion coach Jared Gervais was named the Coach of the Year for leading his team to a 9-2 overall record and an appearance in the first round of the Washington State 3A Gridiron Classic championships. The Lions – whose entire coaching staff was honored with the Staff of the Year award – finished second in the SPSL 3A with a 6-1 record and earned the program’s first postseason win.
Junior Gavin Robertson was honored with first-team selections on both sides of the ball, earning the nod as a defensive back and wide receiver.
Also earning dual all-league selections was junior Gresch Jensen, who was selected as a first team quarterback and a second team defensive back.
Senior Trevor Jensen nabbed selections to the second team as both a defensive and offensive lineman.
Also earning first team selections were senior linebacker Jason Sele and senior kicker Devon Tandberg.
Selected as all-league honorable mentions were: junior wide receiver Ryan Lacey; junior wide receiver and defensive back Vaughn Daggs; junior wide receiver Ki’jan Weisinger; sophomore running back Bitner Wilson; senior offensive lineman Kaleb Bailey; junior offensive lineman Caleb Arciaga; senior defensive lineman Roman Grinchuk; senior linebacker Aeron Watson; and junior returner Corey Barnes.
Senior Nate Hardin was honored for his special teams play.
ALSO: The Auburn Trojans were also honored this past week with the SPSL 3A Sportsmanship award.
Individually, senior offensive lineman Mario Luevana and Peyton Polley, senior defensive lineman Jake Apadoca and Fui Fuimaono, senior linebacker Sam Lindsey and junior defensive back Justin Ioimo were chosen to the all-league first team.
Senior defense back Jake Tuia, junior kicker Caden Borden and junior returner Malik Williams were chosen for the second team and senior offensive lineman Jake Sanow and junior defensive lineman Demetreus Taua were named honorable mentions.
Junior kicker Caden Borden were also honored.
From Auburn Riverside, senior defensive lineman John Coon and senior defensive lineman Marcus Atafua were named to the second team.
Senior Gavin Hettinger earned an honorable mention at wide receiver and was recognized for his special teams play.
Junior defensive back Dennis Beard earned an honorable mention.
