Auburn Riverside’s Colby Tong is SPSL 3A Singles Player of the Year | Prep boys tennis

Auburn Riverside freshman Colby Tong was honored as the South Puget Sound League 3A Singles Player of the Year for his undefeated regular season and stellar play in the postseason. After sweeping through the competition in the SPSL 3A regular season and snagging first in the league tournament, Tong qualified for the Washington State 3A Boys Tennis Championships – which will be May 29-30 at the Tri City Court Club and Kamiakin High School in Kennewick – with a third-place finish at the district tourney.

After sweeping through the competition in the SPSL 3A regular season and snagging first in the league tournament, Tong qualified for the Washington State 3A Boys Tennis Championships – which will be May 29-30 at the Tri City Court Club and Kamiakin High School in Kennewick – with a third-place finish at the district tourney.

Also honored was Auburn Mountainview’s Dustin Hedger, who won a share of the Doubles Player of the Year award.

Also honored from Auburn Mountainview – who won the Team Sportsmanship award – was Matt Howard who was chosen to the All-Opponent first team.

From Auburn, sophomore Bryan Thornquist was chosen to the first team. Thornquist also earned a berth at state, finishing second at the district meet.

Auburn Riverside, who won the league title this season, Adrian Tong and Kyle Wuerch were named with Colby Tong to the first team, with Connor Airis and Aaron Nguyen earning second team nods.
