Pacific Raceways turns 60, releases schedule

33rd NHRA NW Nationals anchors busy 2020 slate

Pacific Raceway celebrates its 60th anniversary this year with the growing, multi-purpose motorsports hamlet hosting 198 events for 2020 on the drag strip and road course, track officials announced Friday.

The total number of events dates excludes police and emergency training dates and events at the PGP Motorsports Park (kart track) and regional motocross track.

Featured on the 2020 calendar is the return of the NHRA Northwest Nationals for the 33rd summer. Joining the lineup of nitro-burning Top Fuel and Funny Cars and Pro Stock field, are the Pro Stock Motorcycles for the first time in the history of the event.

The NHRA stop – part of the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series – invades the Kent quarter-mile strip July 31-Aug. 2.

HondaFest Northwest which includes lead/follow on the road course and drag racing, will headline five large import and domestic car show and lifestyle events. The perennial king of car shows returns April 5. Other shows include the NW ToyRun on Dec. 6; Import Face-Off on May 3 and Aug. 30 and SpringFest on March 7.

Back for 2020 will be West Coast Grudge with five dates, including a June 5-6 big event. Car Club Challenge will run six races at Pacific Raceways. The Olympic Iron Works Motorcycle Drag Series will again race on select Wednesday evenings from May through August. New for this year will be a special Harley-Davidson race series sponsored by Olympic Iron Works with a limited number of dates.

Other notable drag races include Street Outlaws No Prep Kings on Aug. 14-15; United Nitro Funny Cars on June 26-27; 45th annual NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Drag Race on June 11-14; Lucas Oil Regional Top Alcohol Drags and Funny Cars on Aug. 7-8; second annual Bracket Kings Showdown on May 2; 33rd annual GoodGuys Friday Night Drags on July 24; seventh annual GM Nationals on Aug. 22; third annual Mark Lyle Invitational Cornwell Tools Jr. Dragster Race on Aug. 29’ and the 50th annual Cornwell Tools All High School Drags ON May 1.

Drag strip

The Swift Tool ET Race Series will have 13 races from April through August and the Cornwell Tools Jr. Dragster Series will have 11 races. New for this year will be a six-race challenge series with three races at Pacific Raceways and three more at Bremerton Raceway. The challenge series will be part of the weekly ET series at both tracks.

In addition to Wednesday night and Friday night drag test and tunes on select dates May-August, Pacific Raceways will be opening the track for private drag testing on the following dates: April 2 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.); April 9 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.); May 13 (4-10 p.m.); Oct. 7 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.); and Oct. 21 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.). Road course

ProFormance Racing School, Pacific Raceways’ on-site partner, will have nearly 70 track dates in 2020 with track activities from novice training to High-Performance Sport Driving to full race car testing. The racing school has partnered with Pacific Raceways to host monthly car gatherings called 3-D cars featuring donuts, decades of cars and driving on the 2.25-mile road course.

The top event on the 2.25-mile road course for 2020 will once again be the Pacific Northwest Historics, back for its 32nd year of vintage and historic sports car racing on July 3-5. The vintage sports cars also begin and end the season with events on April 24-26 and Sept. 26-27. The Historics will also feature an evening drag race program as part of the raceway’s 60th anniversary celebration.

The International Race Driver’s Club (IRDC) will have two races at Pacific Raceways in 2020 May 15-17 and July 17-19. IRDC is part of the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs. The Lucky Dog Racing League returns to The Place to Race May 30-31 with a test session on May 29. SCCA’s Pacific Grand Prix, a Memorial Day fixture, will race May 23-24 with a test date on Friday May 22 and a prequel date on Monday, May 25.

The Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association will race twice in 2020. Its first event is scheduled for July 10-12 with their second event slated for Sept. 4-6.

The BMW CCA Northwest Region has scheduled six track days for its members in 2020. Porsche Club of America, Northwest Alpha Romeo Club, and Audi Club NW all have track dates at Pacific Raceways.
