Silvertips slide past Thunderbirds on military appreciation night

Seattle wears special military-themed jerseys for charity

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-1 in Western Hockey League play Saturday in front of 5,089 fans at accesso ShoWare Center on Military Appreciation Night.

The T-Birds wore special military-themed jerseys for the game and had a special puck drop ceremony with two local military veterans, one of whom was 98 years old and served in the U.S. Navy in Honolulu, Hawaii, during World War II, and one of who served 20-years in the Marine Corps.

Outreach And Research Services (OARS), a group that provides female military veterans the support and resources needed when reentering civilian life, were the beneficiaries of the jersey auction of the military jerseys worn by the T-Birds.

Everett (12-6-0-0) took a 1-0 lead at 2:57 of the first period on Connor Dewar’s goal. Bryce Kindopp and Ian Walker had the assists.

The Silvertips went in front 2-0 at 7:44 of the first when Jalen Price scored off assists from Wyatte Wylie and Gage Goncalves.

A Wylie shot at 18:19 of the first deflected off a T-Bird stick and past Seattle goalie Liam Hughes to give the Silvertips a 3-0 lead.

Dewar scored at 5:59 of the third period to make it a 4-0 Everett lead.

Seattle (7-7-2-0) got on the board at 13:07 of the third on the power play. Jake Lee crossed the puck to Reece Harsch at the right point. Harsch took a wrist shot with traffic in front of Everett goalie Dustin Wolf. The shot beat Wolf low on the blocker side. Dillon Hamaliuk had the second assist.
