Tale Spinner wore down Memphis Mobster in the final strides and scored a 1¼-length victory Friday in the $11,650 feature race for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
Ridden by Ronald Richard, Tale Spinner ran one mile in 1:36.88 on a sloppy track and paid $8.40, $4.80 and $2.40. Joe Toye is the winning trainer for owner/breeder David Breiwick.
A 4-year-old Washington-bred gelding by Raise the Bluff-Summer Straw, Tale Spinner has won three of four starts at the meet – all one-mile races – and has a career record of 4-3-2 in 17 starts with earnings of $37,885.
Memphis Mobster, ridden by David G. Lopez, nearly led gate-to-wire, but was overhauled late by Tale Spinner, and settled for second place. Memphis Mobster, the 8-to-5 betting favorite, paid $3.40 and $2.20.
Carving, ridden by Leslie Mawing, finished third and paid $2.40 to show. Assessment and Somewhere With You completed the order of finish.
In Friday’s $0.50 Pick 5, there were no tickets with five winners and the carryover is $5,086 to Saturday.
