WWU’s Rotter named to Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 Team

Junior from Auburn Mountainview is a two-time All-GNAC Academic selection, holds 3.82 GPA

Christian Rotter was one of three members of the Western Washington University selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 Team.

Rotter, a junior forward from Auburn Mountainview, joined senior defender Garrett Strawn (Sammamish, Skyline) and junior defender Jeremiah Lee (Marysville, Grace Academy) on the team. The three Vikings, who also earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic awards, advanced to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with honorees announced in early December.

Nominations and voting are conducted by members of CoSIDA. To be considered, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing or higher and be starters or significant reserves for their teams with minimum cumulative grade point averages of 3.30 or better.

WWU led the GNAC with a program-record 11 selections to the Academic All-Conference team, and joined Seattle Pacific as the only school to have multiple players 13-player Academic All-District 8 team. District 8 selections were made up of players from the West Region, with schools from the GNAC, CCAA and PacWest included.

WWU has now had six players and seven selections to the Academic All-District Team, with Strawn a two-time selection also earning the honor in 2017. This year’s trio join Michael Lockwood (2007), Justin Moore (2012), Andrew Weishaar (2013) and Strawn (2017) as Vikings to earn Academic All-District 8 honors.

Rotter was selected to the team with a 3.82 GPA as a manufacturing and supply chain management major. He is a two-time All-GNAC Academic selection and was an honorable mention GNAC All-Conference selection in 2018 after scoring five goals and three assists in 17 games.

Strawn carries a 3.80 GPA as a biochemistry major, and also was big contributor for the Vikings on defense appearing in 16 of 18 games (13 starts). He appeared in 54 career games for WWU, was a three-time GNAC All-Academic selection and was the 2016-17 WWU co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Lee is also a two-time GNAC All-Academic selection and was a Second Team GNAC All-Conference selection in 2018. The junior carries a 3.67 GPA as a business management major. He started all 18 games as a center back for the Vikings, helping lead the team to the second-best goals against average (1.20) in the conference. He was a two-time selection as GNAC Defensive Player of the Week.
