‘Beach’ poses problems

Regarding “City looking to transform ‘beach’ into park” (April 28, Auburn Reporter):

Unfortunately, I live directly across from that beach on the river, and it’s a nightmare.

When we first moved here it was a simple trail and hardly anyone came to the breach area. Now, all summer long it is drinking, parties all night long, bonfires, which they don’t put out, trash everywhere, screaming, music playing, fights and barking dogs.

They also had to cut a tree down with a swing a few years ago because it was so unsafe. Maybe the neighborhood got tired of hearing screams, music and Tarzan yells all day.

At first I was not happy that this area would be turned into an “Auburn park.”

I was assured by the City Council that it would be monitored by police and a gated community, and that someone would be by to lock up this gate and move people out of the area at dusk.

At this point, anything would be better than it is now.

They put signs up on the beach of no alcohol, fires, and the beach closes at dusk. However, they just tear them down and claim there is nothing posted.
