Beloved Auburn is no ‘inner city’

The city of Auburn to be named a “sanctuary” city? Heavens forbid.

As we all know, if that happens, federal funding to our city would be withheld. And if this atrocious demand by this group of protesting students of Auburn High School, whose families are illegals, gets granted, Auburn would turn into a poverty-stricken city, like one of those so-called “inner cites” of America.

As Mayor Nancy Backus said, “If they pull federal funding because we are a sanctuary city … that means our Community Development Block Grant would go away. That means our road funding would go away.”

To me, that means Auburn would become one of those “inner cities.”

Now, why would we want that to happen to our beloved city?

I also totally agree with the Feb. 3 letter to the editor, “We must adhere to our country’s immigration laws,” from Lisa Roman. In her letter, she quoted from the “Law Dictionary: Why is it that Illegal Aliens Get Free Food Stamps, Health Insurance and Pay No Taxes.” Those are facts.

The illegal parents of those protesting students, as Ms. Roman said, “made a choice years ago to break U.S. law.”

To me, there are two kinds of immigrants: the legals and the illegals. The legals are like those visitors who knock on our doors to request admittance into our homes. The illegals are like those burglars who break our doors and windows of our homes to rob us.

Let’s keep America safe. Let’s keep the city of Auburn safe and clean. America is a nation of laws. Let’s obey its laws.
