The definition of a library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources. It provides physical or digital access to material. A library’s collection can include books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, CDs, DVDs, e-books, audio books, databases, etc.

If that is what KCLS should be providing, then why is Director Gary Wasdin bragging that they are providing tutoring sessions, homework support, introducing early learning skills to Latino families, hiring a social worker to assist with health and human services or providing food to youths?

Shouldn’t the school districts be providing help with schoolwork? Shouldn’t local or state government be helping with health and human services? Why limit the early learning skills to Latino families? Why not Eastern Europeans, Asians, Native Americans? Why are they feeding kids?

If KCLS has so much money that it can expand beyond its core mission, then perhaps its budget can be reduced and our property tax lowered.
