Auburn’s Vivian Dao captured the Miss Washington Outstanding Teen Pageant crown at the Highline Performing Arts Center on Sunday.

Dao, a sophomore at Auburn Riverside High School, stole the show, beating 21 contestants for the top prize and qualifying for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Fla., on Aug. 2-6.

Amanda Enz, a junior at Auburn Mountainview and the 2013 Miss Auburn Outstanding Teen, was fourth runner-up.

Dao, the 2014 Miss Auburn Outstanding Teen winner, competed as Miss Liberty, an open title holder candidate. She won the preliminary talent, preliminary fitness, evening gown and on-stage question segments of the pageant. An honors student with a 4.0 grade-point average, Dao won the pageant’s academic award by a separate panel of judges.

She ran on the platform of promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, “Cultivating the Innovators of Tomorrow.”

For her talent show, Dao performed Jarrod Radnich’s “Game of Thrones” theme on the piano, one of 10 instruments she plays.

Dao, 16, daughter of Huong and John Dao, recently was accepted into the honors program at the University of Washington. She wants to pursue a career in the technology field.
