A memorial basketball game will be held at 6 tonight to honor slain Shiloh Drott.
The pickup game will be held at the City of Pacific Gymnasium, 122 Third Ave. SE.
The event is open to the pubic. Donations will be collected for the Shiloh Drott Memorial Fund. Donations also may be made at any Columbia or Mount Rainier bank branch.
A barbecue is being organized in association with the pickup game among Drott’s friends, police officers and firefighters from the Pacific area.
The popular and respected 21-year-old Drott, who grew up in Pacific and graduated from Auburn Riverside High School, was gunned down at a church-sponsored late-night youth event at the Pacific Community Center last Friday.
Drott, who played in high school, spent considerable time as a mentor and coach to younger players. He grew up playing hoops in the Pacific gym.
JERSEY IN HIS HONOR
NBA All-Star Dirk Nowitzki was Drott’s favorite player. He proudly wore his No. 41 Dallas Maverick jersey.
To honor the late Drott, family and friends plan to hang his jersey at the Pacific Gymnasium.
City officials and supporters also are encouraging others to form a campaign and contact the Mavericks in hopes Nowitzki could donate and sign one of his actual game jerseys in Drott’s name.
The Mavericks can be reached at: www.nba.com/mavericks/ or by regular mail at The Pavilion, 2909 Taylor Street, Dallas, TX 75226. The main administrative office number is 214-747-6287 (MAVS).
