Fire, rescue blotter

Between Nov. 17 and Nov. 23, Valley Regional Fire Authority personnel responded to 155 calls for service, among them the following:

NOV. 23

Fall victim: 1:56 p.m., (Auburn/Lea Hill). VRFA personnel were dispatched to a reported 50-year-old man who had fallen 10 feet off a roof onto a concrete sidewalk. VRFA personnel requested the assistance of Medic 6 after a quick evaluation of his condition. The man was awake, but disoriented, so he was stabilized and

backboarded, and treated for a severe head injury with possible internal injuries. Medic 6 transported the man to Harborview Medical Center.

NOV. 21

Injury auto accident: 1:15 a.m., (Auburn/Lea Hill). VRFA units were dispatched to a rollover accident at the 31000 block of 104th Southeast. Firefighters found a vehicle that had rolled completely over and come to rest on its wheels. The driver sustained minor injuries and was evaluated, treated and released to Auburn Police at the scene.

NOV. 20

Respiratory distress: 7:48 p.m., (Lea Hill). Engine 34 and Medic 6 responded to a residence for a patient in respiratory distress. Despite the medical signs, the patient refused to go to the hospital. Medic 6 administered breathing treatment. The patient still refused transport, signed the refusal forms for both agencies, and was left at home.

NOV. 19

Motor vehicle accident:

11:30 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel were dispatched to a car that had struck a power pole. Engine and Aid 32 arrived to find a vehicle with heavy front end damage. The driver had fallen asleep while returning home, sustaining minor injuries.

NOV. 18

Chest pain: 9 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA Firefighters responded to a teacher at a local middle school who was experiencing sudden onset chest pain. A medic unit from King County Medic One was added shortly after arrival to further evaluate the patient. After a full exam, no significant cardiac diagnosis could be made. An ambulance transported to the teacher to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Illegal burn: 6 p.m., (Pacific): VRFA Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue for an illegal burn. Upon arrival, personnel found a contained fire in the back yard of a single family home. Engine 38 personnel notified the homeowner of the burn ban and squelched the fire with a hose.

NOV. 17

Head injury: 3:44 p.m. (Auburn). VRFA crews and Medic 6 responded to a head injury caused when a car rolled onto a man who had been working under it. Personnel stabilized the man at the scene and a helicopter arrived to transport him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
