The Valley Regional Fire Authority Board of Governance will have their shovels ready for a groundbreaking ceremony of the new Lakeland Fire Station 33 at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The ceremony, which will be located at the site of the new station, 500 182nd Ave. E, Auburn, is open to the public. Those who plan on attending are encouraged to dress warmly and carpool, as parking is limited on the east shoulder of 182nd Avenue.

Voters approved the funding for the construction of Lakeland Fire Station 33 as part of a capital funding projects measure passed in February. The addition of the facility will bring the number of fire stations in the VRFA service area to five, including North Auburn Station 31 at 1101 D St. NE; South Auburn Station 32 at 1951 R St. SE; Lea Hill Station 34 at 31204 124th Ave.; and Pacific Station 38 at 133 3rd Ave. SE.
