The smooth vocal tones of the a cappella singing group, The Coats, will fill the air at Les Gove Park for a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, part of Auburn’s Summer Sounds & Cinema. Following The Coats performance, Auburn will offer a screening of “Big” (PG) and staring Tom Hanks.
Les Gove Park is located at 910 9th Street SE in Auburn.
Formed in 1987, The Coats are a vocal band that got their start on the street corners of Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Singing for tourists, locals, fish vendors and fellow buskers alike, their humble ambitions of earning a few clams to fight off tuition bills quickly evolved into a full-time international performance career.
Since those early days, The Coats have won national vocal competitions, sang for the President of the United States, and have been fortunate enough to share the stage with such talented fellow entertainers as Ronnie Milsap, Trisha Yearwood, Montgomery Gentry, The Beach Boys, Tanya Tucker, Billy Dean, Crystal Gayle, and Colin Ray, to name a few.
On Aug. 19, Summer Sounds and Cinema features a concert by Shyanne and the animated movie “Megamind” (PG). In addition, Auburn Youth Council will be selling food and Icy Treats will be selling Ice Cream. There will be free Child ID Kits provided by Auburn’s King Solomon Lodge, and free children’s activities compliments of Veritas Church.
MultiCare and the Muckleshoot Casino support the music and movie series.
