Family-friendly outdoor entertainment, blockbuster movies coming this summer

The Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation Department has announced the Friday evening Summer Sounds & Cinema Series 2013 lineup in August.

The first of the two events is at Sunset Park, 1306 69th St. SE at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2 with entertainment provided by top Beatles tribute band, Crème Tangerine, and a screening of “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” (PG). Featured at the event is an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Maury Toohey-Carlisle.

Participants also will have the opportunity to create glow in the dark salmon hats. Auburn’s King Solomon Lodge will provide free child identification kits, while Reliance Church will offer other free children’s activities.

On Aug. 16, the second and final concert and movie of the season will be at 7 p.m. at Les Gove Park, 910 Ninth St. SE. The Rae Solomon Band, led by Rae Solomon, Seattle’s country music darling, will perform. The featured film is “Puss in Boots” (PG). Auburn’s King Solomon Lodge again will providing free child ID kits, while Veritas Church will offer other free children’s activities.

Food concessions, operated by the Auburn Youth Council, will be available at the events for a nominal fee. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.
