Auburn Symphony Orchestra presents The Triumph of Tchaikovsky this weekend

Auburn Symphony Orchestra continues its 2013-14 season performing one of Tchaikovsky’s best, Symphony No. 4, on on Saturday and Sunday at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 206 E St. NE.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 13.
Gone is Tchaikovsky’s youthfulness in this work that pushes the boundaries of defiance, hope, resignation and triumph.
Seattle-based pianist Mark Salman returns for his third appearance with the Auburn Symphony performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.4, a work known for being one of the greatest in the genre of solo keyboard with orchestral accompaniment.
The program also features Beethoven’s dramatic Coriolan Overture.
Prior to the performance, conductor Stewrat Kershaw and KUOW host Dave Beck will give a pre-concert lecture, focusing on the composers and their works.
The concerts are sponsored in large part by the City of Auburn.
Kershaw, an internationally-renowned conductor and recently retired music director of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, leads the fully-professional orchestra that was founded in 1996.
