Auburn Mountainview’s Colton Weeldryer, Auburn’s Avinir Kravchuk and Bryan Thornquist qualify for state | Prep tennis

Lion freshman Colton Weeldryer battled his way to a third-place finish at the West Central District III/Southwest District IV Boys Tennis tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma.
The finish earns Weeldryer a berth in the Washington State Boys 3A Championship Tournament, which will be conducted May 30-31 at Kamiakin High School and the Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick.
Weeldryer beat Columbia River sophomore Owen Carlson, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round, before losing 6-3, 6-0 to Columbia River sophomore Dominik Gorecki.
Weeldryer defeated Mount Tahoma junior Janrick Peros 6-1, 6-1 for the third seed into state.
ELSEWHERE: Auburn senior Avinir Kravchuk and freshman Bryan Thornquist qualified for the Washington State Boys 4A Championship Tournament with a fourth-place finish at districts at Capital City Courts in Olympia this past Saturday. Thornquist and Kravchuk bumped of their first round opponents Nolan Godfrey and Will Godfrey, both seniors from Olympia 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 and downed senior Carter Galgano and sophomore Davis Galgano 6-2, 6-2 in the second round. The Trojan No. 1 doubles team’s first loss in the tourney came to eventual district champs Will Berghoff and Kyle Wooten, both juniors from Olympia
6-2, 7-5 in the third round. Thornquist and Kravchuk lost 6-4, 6-3 to Union seniors Alex Chanthavong and Jacob Buckley, to snag the fourth seed into the state tourney. The Washington State Boys 4A Tennis Tourney is May 30-31 at Richland and Hanford high schools and the Columbia Basin Racquet Club in the Tri-Cities.
