Auburn senior Lauren Thornquist qualified for the state 4A girls tennis championships with her performance in day one of the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 4A Tennis Tournament in Tumwater.

Thornquist, who has played at the state tourney each year of her prep career, easily defeated first-round opponent Tess Bellindean of Union 6-0, 6-1 and second-round foe Syndney Pham of Olympia 6-2, 6-0, to move on in the championship bracket.

Thornquest plays Skyline’s Sammi Hampton Saturday morning, with a win moving her on to the district title game.

The Washington State 4A Girls Tennis tournament is May 30-31 in Richland.

ALSO: For the Auburn Riverside doubles teams of Carson Heilborn and Sydnie LaValley, as well as Jessica Fulford and Lindsey Sanborn, the road to state leads through each other.

The two duos play each Saturday morning in a loser-out contest in the consolation brackets of the district tourney.
