Locals place on day one of state 3A track and field championships | Track and field

Auburn freshman Rebecca Thareek capitalized on her first trip to the Washington State 3A Boys and Girls Track and Field Championships on Thursday with a third-place finish in the high jump.

Thareek posted a 5 feet, 4 inch jump on the first day of the meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.

Also placing in the event was Auburn Mountainview senior Tiffany Pott who was tied for fourth in the event with 5-02.00 mark.

Stanwood junior Madison Yerigan finished first with a 5-08.00

In the pole vault, Auburn Mountainview senior Keegan Provo was seventh with a 13-06.00 vault. Zach Shugart of Bishop Blanchet won the state title in the event with a 15-09.00 vault.

In the track events junior Christian Rotter snagged eight in the 1,600 with a 4 minute, 20.21 second time. Mt. Spokane’s John Dressell finished first in the event with a 4:15.26.

The state meet continues today and Saturday at Mount Tahoma Stadium.
