Frank and Arlene Hatten were honored as Pacific’s Citizens of the Year during a dinner reception March 19.
“I’ve been volunteering in the community for probably 15 years, and they were here way before me,” said Mayor Leanne Guier, adding that the couple has been involved for many years in Pacific Days, the City’s annual, three-day celebration each July. “They spearhead a lot of the volunteer work.”
Frank makes sure trash cans are emptied at the bus stops in the city, Guier said, and Arlene volunteers many hours to help youth, including the Auburn School District’s Summer Lunch Program.
This is the third consecutive year Guier has awarded a Citizen of the Year. Jeanne Fancher was the recipient in 2014, and Ann Smith was honored last year.
