Auburn receives CRS Class 5 flood rating from FEMA; residents eligible for insurance discounts

The City of Auburn has received official notification from FEMA that it has retained its rating as a CRS Class 5 community in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (NFIP CRS).

The floodplain management activities recognized by this rating allow flood insurance policy holders in the Auburn community a 25 percent discount in the premium costs for qualifying NFIP policies issued or renewed in Special Flood Hazard Areas.

“This is quite an accomplishment, given that the CRS recently overhauled their requirements for receiving points in the program, causing many municipalities to downgrade during this review cycle,” said Environmental Planner Jenna Leonard.

The FEMA report notes that the continued Class 5 rating is a tangible result of the flood mitigation activities the City implements to protect lives and reduce property damage. The Class 5 rating will remain in effect for a three-year period before it comes up review.
