For the Reporter

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority extinguished an Auburn apartment fire Thursday afternoon.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

At 3:10 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in an apartment at the Garden Apartments in the 1400 block of 17th Street Southeast in Auburn. First-arriving units reported smoke and flames from the second and third floors of a four-unit building.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, they rescued a cat from the third floor. The cat was given oxygen using a pet rescue mask and was reunited with her owner.

Five adults and five children were displaced. The American Red Cross provided help.

The Puget Sound Fire Authority, King County Medic One and Zone 3 Fire Rehab assisted VRFA crews.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
