Snow gives way to rain

Snow continues to turn to rain as Auburn begins to shed a heavy, white blanket.
Precipitation in Auburn was changing from snow to rain to a snow mix across the area after another storm front moved in Monday, bringing more snow.
As snow on roadways turns to slush and standing water, drivers are urged to travel with caution. While the snow may experience some melting, overnight freezing temperatures could create icier roads or heavier slush that can be difficult to drive on, city officials warned.
The main concern is that the snow is very wet and heavy and has led to a high threat of tree damage, power outages, snow sliding off roofs, and even roof collapse, city officials said.
Street crews will continue working 24/7 to plow and sand priority routes and secondary routes.
All city of Auburn facilities will be open and fully operational Tuesday.
King County District Court will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday. This includes the Auburn court.
Auburn schools, and Green River and Highline colleges are closed Tuesday.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup service has been canceled Tuesday. Customers will not be charged for extra collection when collections resume. Please move containers off the street until your next scheduled pickup day. Visit the city’s Solid Waste and Recycling page for more information.
Waste Management will have a dropoff for garbage and recycling at its Auburn office parking area, at 701 Second St. NW from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for customers who can travel to the site. Visit wmnorthwest.com for more details.
