Model aircraft hobbyists host 38th annual Stuntathon Saturday, Sunday in Auburn

Local model aircraft hobbyists host the 38th annual Stuntathon, a premier Northwest all-stunt contest for model aircrafts, Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23, at Auburn Municipal Airport (Dick Scobee Field), 2143 E St. NE, Suite 1.

The event brings together members of the local Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) club – Northwest Skyraiders – and the public to enjoy model aviation. The event is open to the public.

Saturday includes old-time stunt, classic stunt and profile stunt. Sunday brings precision aerobatics for beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert levels.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. each day and closes when the contests begin. AMA or MAAC Membership is required of all participants and mechanics, and AMA membership is available at registration.

AMA clubs throughout the country will host events throughout the summer to celebrate the hobby, benefit local charities and highlight the importance of model aviation. Flying model aircraft is also much more than a hobby; it is an effective tool for teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to kids and teenagers. For many young people, aeromodelling leads to successful careers in aviation, aerospace science and engineering – jobs that are increasingly vital to our future.

The Academy of Model Aeronautics, founded in 1936, serves as the nation’s collective voice for approximately 200,000 modelers in 2,400 clubs in the United States and Puerto Rico. Headquartered in Muncie, Ind., AMA is a membership organization representing those who fly model aircraft for recreational and educational purposes. For more information, visit modelaircraft.org.
