Think of it: block parties, cookouts, things for kids to do, getting to know your neighbors, and police and city brass dropping by to schmooze.
Sound like fun?
Well, it’s called National Night Out, and plenty of Auburn neighborhoods have been doing it spectacularly for 35 years on the first Tuesday in August.
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, make that 36 years.
The idea is to sharpen drug prevention and crime awareness, to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs and police-community partnerships, and build neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, better places to live, and to let criminals know that Auburn’s neighborhoods are organized and aren’t going to take it any more.
If your neighborhood plans to host an event, register online at auburnwa.gov/nno before July 16 to receive free promotional goodies like postcard invitations, flyers, bookmarks, even an event banner to promote your shindig. Neighborhoods may also arrange to have a city or police representative show up to talk to attendees about fighting crime in their area.
