Between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 233 calls for service, among them the following:
Jan. 6
Aid call: 3:20 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated a boy who told them he believed that the plastic piece of a permanent marker he had swallowed on a school bus was stuck in his throat, and a private ambulance motored him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
Jan. 7
Commercial fire: 10:50 a.m.,(Auburn). Multiple fire units responding to a local strip mall for a reported roof fire arrived to find the fire out but the units below infused with smoke. Firefighters inspected the roof and attic spaces to ensure there was no fire extension. Investigation determined that the fire was caused by workers using a torch-down roofing method.
Jan. 6
Aid call: 7:19 p.m., (Auburn). When firefighters reached a man they’d been told was in the throes of a seizure, they realized his heart had stopped, so they performed CPR, restored his pulse and paramedics hurried him to MAMC.
Jan. 8
A id call: 6:26 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and medical staff on scene at an Auburn High School basketball game tended to a boy’s dislocated shoulder, and a private ambulance transported him to St. Francis Hospital.
Jan. 9
Accident: 8:15 a.m., (South Auburn). Personnel treated one person who’d sustained minor injuries in a two-car accident, and a private ambulance transported him to MAMC.
Jan. 10
Automatic fire alarm: 6:42 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an apartment resident’s calls about a smoke detector wailing in an adjoining unit found no one home, so they forced the door and removed the pan they’d found smoking on the stove, opened the doors to air the unit and left the scene with police to wait for the occupants to return.
Jan. 11
A id call: 1:46 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped multiple adults who’d sustained minor-to-significant injuries in a high-speed accident, all of whom required transportation to a hospital. A combination of Airlift Northwest, Medic One and an ambulance transported the injured to Harborview Medical Center and to MAMC.
Jan. 12
Service call: 1:39 p.m., (West Hill). Firefighters responding to a tree down on a road discovered that a helpful resident had cut up the tree before they got there, so they swept the road clear of debris.
