Local cheer squads compete in state championships

Cheerleaders from the Auburn, Auburn Riverside and Auburn Mountainview cheer squads competed on Saturday in the Washington State Interscholastic Activities Association State Championships at Alaska Airlines Arena at the University of Washington campus in Seattle.

In the 4A Small squad competition, the Raven team captured second-place with a 76.25 point performance. Union High School won the event category with 82 points.

The Trojans competed in the 2A/3A/4A Non-Tumbling Large team competition, taking home sixth-place with a 62.25 point finish. The team from Bethel captured the state title in the category with a 78.25 point score.

In the 2A/3A/4A Non-Tumbling Coed competition, the Lion cheer squad finished fourth with a 62.75 score.

Auburn Mountainview competes again at the National High School Cheerleading Championship Feb. 8-9 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The competition is to be televised on ESPN and ESPN2.
