Woman dies in head-on crash on West Valley Highway North

A two-car, head-on accident at the intersection of West Valley Highway and 37th Street Northwest Monday afternoon killed an 83-year-old Auburn woman and sent her husband to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

Genevieve Brasmer was the lone passenger in a Honda mini-van driven by her husband Clinton Brasmer, 79. According to the King County Medical Examiner’s office, she died of blunt-force injuries to her trunk and extremities. Her husband remains hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to Auburn police, the delivery van, driven by a 28-year-old Federal Way man, had been north bound on the West Valley crossing of the intersection on a green light when it struck the southbound 2003 Honda, which had failed to yield the right of way as it attempted a left turn onto 37th Street.

Units from the Valley Regional Fire Authority used special extrication equipment to remove the injured couple. Clinton Brasmer was treated by personnel from the Valley Regional Fire Authority and Medic 6, then transported to Harborview Medical Center via Airlift Northwest. Mrs. Brasmer was extricated and transported to Harborview Medical Center via King County Medics but later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The van’s driver, who was uninjured, was released at the scene.

The accident shut down portions of the highway while crews inspected the scene and transported the victims.
