Auburn played host to the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) National Championships this past weekend, with 200 participants from 17 states flocking to Auburn Mountainview High School for the event.
The competition featured competitors from ages four to 64, stacking plastic cups in a specific sequence – including 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and the cycle – in the speediest time possible.
Among the highlights of the event was the performance of Auburn’s own Gabby Rivera, a seventh-grader at Cascade Middle School.
Rivera finished second in the female individual all-around competition, scoring a 10.936 second time in the combined 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and cycle stack.
Rivera’s 3-3-3 time was good enough for third in the female division, her 3-6-3 and cycle times earning her a second place amongst all the females at the event.
In her age group, 13-18 female, Rivera was second in the cycle, and her 3-3-3 and took home first in the 3-6-3.
In the Speed Stacks State Challenge, with the four fastest stackers from each state competing, Washington came in third, with the stackers from Texas taking first and Missouri second.
Next up for Rivera and the other placers from the national competition is the WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships April 11-12 in Montreal, Canada.
