Auburn defeats Lakes 49-27, readies for postseason | Prep football

Auburn secured third place in the South Puget Sound League 3A and a district playoff berth next weekend with a 49-27 victory over Lakes at Auburn Memorial on Friday.
The Lancers (3-4 league, 5-4 overall) found the end zone first with junior quarterback Robert Reiten connecting with junior Xavier Weston for a 53-yard touchdown.
Auburn (6-2, 7-3) responded with the next three scores, two runs by senior running back Patrick O’Dell in the first quarter – one for a yard and one from 9 yards out – and Masai Matthews’s 5-yard run in the second quarter.
Lakes put up the final points of the half – after a wild second quarter that found both teams turning over the ball three times – with Reiten connecting with sophomore Cale Lindsay for a 42-yard TD.
In the second half, Auburn posted 21 points, with junior Kevin Clay rushing for a 47-yard TD and junior Malik Williams adding a 17-yard run for a touchdown. O’Dell scored his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter with a 30-yard run.
Lakes posted two touchdowns in the half, with Reiten finding receivers for two scoring passes, one to junior Chris Hunter for 19-yards and another to Weston for 35 yards.
The Trojans finished the game with a whopping 539 yards rushing, with three players gaining more than 100 yards in the game.
O’Dell finished with a game-high 150 yards on 15 carries with three TDs. Wade added 113 yards on eight carries with a touchdown and Clay had eight carries for 110 yards and a TD.
Also chipping in with the Auburn ground attack were quarterback Justin Ioimo who had 12 carries for 81 yards and Williams who had 83 yards on seven carries.
Auburn feasted on Lakes turnovers, recovering three fumbles and intercepting the Lancers once.
Defensively the Trojans held Lakes to just 55 yards on the ground, while allowing 299 passing yards.
The win earns the Trojans an away game next Friday or Saturday against WesCo No. 2 Meadowdale (6-2-1).
