Community celebrates Uniquely Auburn

Auburn celebrated its uniqueness with song and dance, art and poetry, storytelling and exhibits last Sunday at the Performing Arts Center.

Uniquely Auburn – a free community-sponsored celebration of cultural diversity – recognized people, places and events that make the community unique.

The 16th annual Uniquely Auburn, “An All-American Story”, featured performances by Latin Rhythms, a dance group from Green River Community College; Marina Shats, an accomplished composer and pianist; Timmy and Jonny Kosaka, two young harpists; Kate Kosaka, playing the Thai Dulcimer; “unique” stories about Auburn; a special re-enactment of “Casey at the Bat”, and other acts.

An art and poetry exhibit in the lobby featured the works of Auburn School District students and various community artists.

Following the program in the theater, there was a complimentary “sit-down” picnic-style dinner.

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, City of Auburn, Soroptimist International of Auburn, Auburn Arts Commission, Auburn School District and Trillium sponsored the event.
