Kent Relay for Life joins Seattle Thunderbirds in fight against cancer

Benefit game Friday at the ShoWare Center

Seattle Thunderbirds left wing player Ryan Gropp was 14 when his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in Kamloops, B.C.

The family – his dad and younger brother – were devastated watching Colleen Gropp going through chemotherapy. Three years later, the cancer returned. At age 20, Gropp understands how the disease has such a painful impact on patients and families.

Today Gropp’s mom is doing well, thanks, he says, to the cancer research that guided his mom’s treatment.

The Thunderbirds play the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at the Showare Center. The American Cancer Society has partnered with the Thunderbirds to raise money for Relay For Life.

For every $25 ticket, $12 is earmarked to help raise funds for cancer research and help end the disease.

Fans must purchase tickets by midnight Thursday in order to participate in the cancer donation. Help support Relay For Life and help save lives and purchase your tickets here.
