Army cadet appears on TV documentary

Larry Chilson Choate III, a senior cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. N.Y., and 2005 Auburn Riverside High School graduate – recently was featured on a special TV mini series, “The American Future” on BBC America.

The series is based on the work of Simon Schama, one of TV’s most popular historians and a professor of art history and history at Columbia University.

In his documentary, Schama travels through America to dig deep into the conflicts of its history as a way to understand the country’s contemporary political situation.

Film crews followed Choate, a cadet captain on the brigade staff, for three days as part of a segment devoted to the history of war. Choate shared his views on war in his interview.

“It was wonderful. I was awesomely impressed with it,” said Choate’s mother, Yvette, who lives in Sumner with her husband, Larry, and family. “He really enjoyed doing it. He is patriotic, a young Republican and proud of what he’s doing there. He’s really embracing it.”

Choate, 22, is scheduled to graduate from the academy in May, and is assigned to air defense artillery. He competes for the Black Knights as a sprinter on the track team.
