Local golfers compete in state tourneys | Prep golf

Auburn High School golfer Brandon Hazel just missed the second-day cut at the Washington State Boys 4A Golf Championships this past weekend at the par-71 Camas Meadows course in Camas.

Hazel shot a round one score of 81, (9-over-par) missing the cut (80) by just one stroke.

Lynwood senior Rudy Caparas won the state 4A title with a two-round, two-under-par 142.

Auburn Riverside’s Haley Vandenberg competed in the Washington State Girls 3A Championship tourney at the par-73 Club Greens Meadows in Vancouver, posting a one-round score of 104. The cut for the second day was 91.

Bellarmine Prep’s Alivia Brown won the title with a two-round, two-over-par 148.

In the girls 3A competition at the par 73 Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland, Auburn Mountainview’s Nicki Burkhauser shot a one-round 101. Teammate Bethany Cowman notched a one-round 103. Both missed the cut for day two, which was 94.

Mercer Island’s Rachel Fujitani won the state title with a two-round, even 146.
