The 12th Boot, an online footwear business owned by a former Auburn elementary school teacher and counselor, recently joined forces with the Derrick L. Coleman Jr. No Excuse Foundation.

Lyndsay Gabeau, The 12th Boot owner, is helping to drive awareness and funds to support the Seattle Seahawk fullback’s charitable efforts. The 12th Boot will donate 5 percent of its profits to Coleman’s work.

Coleman, the first legally deaf offensive player in the NFL, has organized a foundation with a two-fold mission: First, to inspire and encourage those with hearing loss to adopt the “no excuse” mantra as they work to achieve their dreams. Second, to lessen instances of bullying aimed at those with hearing impairments, and other disabilities, through education and awareness.

“We are excited to team up with such a dynamic footwear company,” the foundation said in a statement. “Donations from the 12th boot will support our anti-bullying campaign. Plus, the boots are hot. Thank you, Lyndsay and the 12th boot.”

Gabeau was involved in public education as a fourth-grade teacher and a school counselor for the past seven years at Ilalko Elementary.

“Although I enjoyed my profession as an educator, I felt a burning desire to pursue my passion and express my creativity,” Gabeau said of her career change, turning a hobby into a company. “The meaning of life is to find your passion. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
