A generous friend

After I retired from teaching in the Auburn School District, I found myself reflecting on the happenings during the 30 years I taught in the district. This generally involves the people I worked with over those years.

After I retired from teaching in the Auburn School District, I found myself reflecting on the happenings during the 30 years I taught in the district. This generally involves the people I worked with over those years.

One who comes to mind is Juan Huseby, who was the district finance officer. She was efficient and thorough in her job. My personal contact with her came when I informed the district that I had earned a masters degree at the University of Washington, and therefore was eligible to receive the appropriate salary. Juan Huseby helped me fill out the correct forms.

Financing the schools always has been an uphill battle, so Juan had to handle the funds very carefully.

She never married and lived modestly. So I was surprised recently to discover she left her entire estate to the school district scholarship fund. It was $250,000.

There are many graduating students from Auburn who have benefitted from her generosity. Juan Huseby is part of what is best about the Auburn community.
