Best of Auburn choices shouldn’t be limited

Read with interest about the Best of Auburn list and was fairly disappointed in that it was not the Best of Auburn. There were several places of business that are not in the city limits, specifically the Jade Greens Golf Course and the Washington National Golf Course. If it is going to be the Best of Auburn, limit it only to those places located with the city limits, not the surrounding areas.

As a resident of the city and of the surrounding areas for almost 30 years, I wholeheartedly agree with the recent letter to the editor from Ken Lamond about the downtown area of Auburn. There is nothing there.

I have spoken with the mayor on a number of occasions about issues pertaining to the city and have only received typical political responses. That is, basically, no response at all other than “we are looking at it,” or “we are thinking about it.” It is the same story we have heard for the past 25 plus years. The Puget Sound area is so politically correct that it is sickening, and we are tired of it.

The city controls many of the parcels of land in the downtown area, but no development is forthcoming. There has been a house at the corner of Pike Street Southeast and East Main that has been vacant for years. Grass is growing on the roof, and the city does nothing.

Where is this so called “Auburn Junction” we are hearing about, but nothing is being done about it?

As I indicated, we have lived in this area for almost 30 years, had three kids who graduated from Auburn High School and have spent a lot of money in local stores over the past years but no more. Although it is a bad time, we have our house up for sale (it is paid for). We don’t have to sell but we are so tired of hardly anything being done that we hope to move out of the Auburn area forever and never look back.
